Celebrating the Success of Tuscan Basketball: Awards Ceremony Honors Youth Teams and Regional Movement

Tuscan basketball meets in Siena for a day dedicated to young people and the regional basketball movement. Today at 11am, in the Aula Magna of the Rector’s Office of the University, the awards ceremony will take place for the teams that won the regional youth championships in the 2022 2023 season, in addition to the 3×3 prize and the Tuscan Cup. The awards will be awarded in the presence of the sports councilor of the Municipality of Siena Lorenzo Lorè, the president of the Italian Basketball Federation Giovanni Petrucci and the president of the Tuscany Regional Committee of the FIP, Massimo Faraoni (in the photo). 28 clubs were awarded (20 men’s and 8 women’s), together with coaches, managers and referees who became protagonists during the last sports season and who, specifically, will receive the special prizes, dedicated to great personalities such as ‘Massai’, ‘Formigli’ and ‘Focardi’. On this occasion, the FIP honorary plaques will also be awarded, in recognition of the long dedication to the world of basketball. “It will be a beautiful celebration of Tuscan basketball after the stages of previous years in Florence, Pistoia, Lucca and Livorno – said Faraoni on the eve – we have chosen the prestigious location of the University of Siena, for which we thank the Rector, for a day dedicated to all the clubs that have worked hard to relaunch basketball post-covid. Thanks to the kids and their families, the numbers are really important. The presence of the federal president also makes us very happy because it ennobles our movement.” In fact, we are talking about 9210 matches managed by the Tuscan Committee with 489 teams registered in the youth championships in the 2022-2023 season. “A figure that also improves on the pre-covid season which saw 483 teams registered. We have increased activity and we are in the top four regions for global numbers “. Tuscany therefore remains an important reality in national basketball. And not just for the first men’s teams. “After years we have a team, Pistoia, in A1. Then Chiusi in A2, nine Interregional B companies, five in National B. Siena? Always an important reality in Tuscany with its leaders such as Mens Sana, Costone and Virtus who drive the provincial movement in men’s and also women’s basketball”. In short, basketball in the Grand Duchy, according to President Faraoni, has something to smile about. Guido De Leo
