Bitter setback in Champions League opener for FC Bayern as they face PSG

On the first matchday in the premier class, FC Bayern lost a 2-0 lead. Now the team around top scorer Lea Schüller urgently needs points. It’s against PSG.

FC Bayern went into the break with a 2-0 lead against Roma, but in the end the score was 2-2. This was a bitter setback for progress in the Champions League, which should be rectified with a win at Paris Saint-Germain. As the leaders of the Women’s Bundesliga, we have the necessary self-confidence.

Paris Saint-Germain – Bayern Munich 0-1

46. It goes on. Bayern have changed once: Sydney Lohmann is now in the game for Schüller.

45.+2 Half time in Paris. The Bayern women deserved to lead, there was far too little from PSG, the hosts were harmless offensively and vulnerable defensively. The Munich team only has to accept the accusation of not having extended their 1-0 lead – because there were enough chances. What happens next in the second round?

42. What’s going on here? Linda Dallmann goes for the ball in the PSG penalty area against Elisa de Almeida – and is simply knocked over by the defender. A clear, undisputed penalty. But referee Huerta de Aza doesn’t blow her whistle – and no Bayern player complains either. Curious. If only there was video evidence here…

36. Now a chance to score for the previously disappointing Parisians: After a corner, Marie-Antoinette Katoto rises highest and tries a header from close range. Bayern goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs has no problems with the low-pressure attempt.

33. – Once again very strong from Bayern: Georgia Stanway moves into the middle, then passes through the gap to Gwinn in the PSG penalty area – but the national player is just offside.

27. – That could have been 2-0 straight away. Must be! Jovana Damjanovic fights for the ball from Sakina Karchaoui in the PSG penalty area, puts it directly across the middle to Schüller, who only needs to push it in – but arrives a hundredth of a second too late.

21. – 1-0 for Bayern! Bühl hits a free kick from the left far into the penalty area, Glodis Viggosdottir puts it in the middle at the far post, Lea Schüller misses first, but Magdalena Eriksson is completely free next to her and takes the lead for the guests.

13. – The Munich team did very well in these first few minutes, attacking early and forcing ball losses. Gwinn gets the ball just outside the PSG penalty area and sends the incoming Klara Bühl, who tries it from a tight angle – PSG keeper Kiedrzynek is there.

7. – First wobble at PSG: Jade Le Guilly tries to head a Bayern cross to her goalkeeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek – but she completely misses the ball, Kiedrzynek was already on the way in the other direction. With her last effort she clears the ball before the line.

5th minute of play – There’s not much going on offensively for both of them yet: Giulia Gwinn ventures into the PSG penalty area with a solo attempt, but then gets stuck.

6:45 p.m. – Referee Marta Huerta de Aza blows the whistle to start the game.

6:42 p.m. – Both teams line up for the Champions League anthem. It will start soon.

6:35 p.m. – And this is how the hosts from Paris play:
