Baseball United League Kicks Off with Exhibition Games in Dubai

Baseball United will begin play this weekend with a pair of exhibition games on Friday and Saturday where several players have the opportunity to rewrite their careers.

(Lidom.Com), SANTO DOMINGO. -Robinson Canó indicated that the new Baseball United league in the Emirate of Dubai is a great opportunity for players who can continue playing outside the United States.

“[La liga es] a great opportunity … for guys who play baseball who never had the opportunity to play for a while,” Canó told Christian Arnold of the New York Post.

Baseball United will begin play this weekend with a pair of exhibition games on Friday and Saturday where several players have the opportunity to rewrite their careers.

“Now you see baseball players, when they reach 32, 33 years old, if they don’t play at a high level, they won’t even have the opportunity to play in the big leagues,” Canó said.

Cano, 40, became part of the Dubai-based Professional Baseball League’s ownership group, Baseball United, in September and was selected sixth overall in its inaugural draft last month.

“I will also say more that I am opening the door for a lot of guys that I would love to continue playing baseball,” added Cano, who played the first nine years of his career with the Yankees.

The new league will not only bring baseball to the Middle East and South Asia, but for Canó it is an opportunity to help other players have the opportunity to extend their careers.

There will be only two games, so that the Arabs get to know baseball, with two “All-Star” teams in preparation for the league in its inaugural season between November and December 2024.

Baseball United has several familiar names, including 50-year-old Dominican Bartolo Colón, 33-year-old Didi Gregorius from Curacao, and 37-year-old Venezuelan Pablo Sandoval.
