Barça beats Maccabi with the return of the best Laprovittola

Barça came out alive in Pionir’s visit to Maccabi (90-92) in a match that Laprovittola (23) had to resolve in the absence of centers eliminated due to personal fouls. The Morón point guard added excitement at the end by missing two free throws but Brown could not tie and the victory was won by a Barça that changed the negative dynamics of the Blaugrana week.

In a soulless atmosphere at the Pionir, and without Vesely or Jokubaitis, Barça entered a little cold – with Willy’s initial intention – (4-0) although Willy himself and Laprovittola were in charge of getting the team going with the point guard’s first triple (7-8). Barça’s defense was not too intense and Maccabi found corridors to enter and cause fouls.

with a cash Nebo, Maccabi began to pick up the pace of the match and the first differences came after a triple by Cohen (19-14). Grimau, trying to change the rhythm, put Paulí as base, although the game was in the hands of the Israelis with Lorenzo Brown beginning to activate (25-18).

Laprovittola tried to take control and also scorealthough Maccabi, more intense and successful, gave Barça 31 points in the first quarter, too many if they wanted to win the game in Belgrade (31-26).

A more aggressive Barça

With the second unit on the court, Barça offered a more aggressive image at the beginning of the second quarter. Colson gave the locals another lead of five (35-30) but Barça got into tune, started to defend better and Maccabi no longer scored so easily.

The ‘player’ Baldwin tried to keep his team ahead (39-36) but that rhythm that Brizuela, Parra and Parker set, benefited Barça who managed to take the lead for the first time with points from a successful Willy (42-43).

With the reaction achieved, Grimau returned Laprovittola and Kalinic to the court for the newcomers, and the match was tightened with a spectacular Alex Abrines (11 points) who nailed two consecutive triples to leave the duel balanced at halftime (51-51). Lowering Maccabi’s score seemed key to winning this match.

Barça returned to the court focused, with aggression and success, and took control of the duel and the scoreboard with a very ‘connected’ Parker, a triple from Kalinic and a stratospheric dunk from Nnaji for a partial 0-10 (51-61).

Katash stopped the match and Maccabi reacted (57-61) although a triple by Satoransky returned control to Barça, who played with a good rhythm and tied Baldwin closer. Nnaji went to the bench with a few good minutes and Willy returned, who before the end of the quarter committed his fourth foul, and Laprovittola could not find the rim.

A horrible final minute of the quarter for Barça, with Nnaji also committing his fourth foul and Maccabi got into the duel with a run of 9-2 (68-70) with 10 minutes left. With the centers ‘threatened’ with exclusion, Da Silva took on the role of ‘five’.

Grimau gave confidence to Parra and Paulí, and soon Willy returned to the track. The intensity had to be maintained to stop Maccabi and Baldwin in these final minutes. Although the Barça coach, aware that the match was being played, recovered his trusted players, with Satoransky, Parker and Abrines. Everything open (79-79) with six minutes left.

Maccabi was left without its top scorer, Baldwin, who was disqualified for protesting and became a great opportunity for the Blaugrana (81-85) after a triple by Kalinic. Nnaji’s fifth foul was accompanied by a technical on the Blaugrana bench and Brown became the only threat for the home team (86-87). In the next attack, it was Willy who committed the fifth attack. Barça was going to play without centers.

In the final two minutes, and without centers, Jasiel Rivero became the owner of the area but the smartest was Laprovittola who took control of the Blaugrana. He forced three shots with 12 seconds left (90-91). He missed two, but Brown couldn’t equalize and the victory went to Barcelona (90-92)
