The sanction against Sandro Tonali for the ‘Betting Case’ is now (almost) official. Gabriele Gravina, president of the Italian Federation, has announced the agreement what the Newcastle midfielder – signed this summer from Milan for 70 million euros – has achievedwith the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

The Italian international, who admitted to having bet on Milan matches while he was a Rossonero player, has agreed, according to Gravina, a sanction of 10 months without playing and another eight of “alternative penalties”.

Now, for the punishment to be effective, must be approved by the CONI General Sports Prosecutor’s Office (Italian Olympic Committee) and that UEFA extends it internationally. A ‘formalism’ that will not take long to happen.

The Italian international, 23 years old, must submitas detailed by ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, to gambling addiction therapy and it will have to be available for 16 “in-person” meetings organized by the Italian Federation.

Tonali, in this way, will say goodbye to the season, Eurocup, in case Italy qualifies, included. “We have to choose between thinking only about punishing or addressing some important social aspects,” Gravina stressed.

“Sandro is in a state of shock, shocked and sad. He is playing an important game against the bets and he will win it too. I hope this experience saves your life,”Giuseppe Riso, representative of Tonali, said a few days ago.
