The Port of Algeciras advances in the renovation for the Civil Guard in Saladillo |

The Port of Algeciras (Spain) has made the decision to entrust Dragados, the only company that participated in the bidding process, to carry out the works for the creation of a new space for the Civil Guard of the Sea in the dock of The Saladillo. The contract, valued at 2,937,887.02 euros and with an execution period of ten months, was recommended by the contracting table of the Port Authority of Algeciras, given that only one competitive offer was received.

The El Saladillo area, located near the entrance to the dock, is home to the ramps of the Isla Verde slipway. Currently, half of these ramps are operational and managed by concessionaires, while the others have remained inactive for more than thirty years.

What’s more, the water surface adjacent to these disused ramps is used as anchorage for small boats, many of which are abandoned or even sunken. Meanwhile, the breakwater slope and the emerged part of the ramps have become an illegally invaded space, where remains of materials and garbage accumulate.

To revitalize and rehabilitate the surface occupied by the disused ramps, the Port Authority of Algeciras aims to establish a docking dock for shallow draft auxiliary vessels. This pier will be located parallel to the existing breakwater slope.

This new structure will not only serve to satisfy the docking needs in the El Saladillo dock, but will also allow the relocation of the Civil Guard of the Sea vessels, which are currently docked at the auxiliary boat dock in the port of Algeciras. This reorganization will free up the occupied part of said auxiliary dock for other purposes.

Apart from these works, the Port of Algeciras has also focused last September on drafting a project to improve the paving and drainage of the PIF construction service esplanades.
