The most anticipated announcement by Spanish tennis fans has come from the voice of the director of the Australian Open this Wednesday. The one from Manacor, Craig Tiley announced, will be in the first Grand Slam of the year, next January 2024. Well, as ElDesmarque has learned, the Spanish tennis player has not spoken with Tiley nor can he confirm that he will be in the tournament. “He doesn’t know, I hope, but he doesn’t know.”

Rafa Nadal wears practically the whole year without competing. Specifically, since last January 18, when he fell in the second round, precisely, of the Australian Open. After several frustrated attempts to return, the tennis player gave a historic press conference on May 18 in which announced a break for all that remained of 2023 with the hope of returning in 2024 to say goodbye to his career. His objective, then, is to recover from the various injuries he had in the hip and psoas of his left leg to arrive with options to compete in what will be the last year of his career.

Rafa Nadal does not know when he will return

Nadal’s entourage assures that the tennis player has not confirmed his presence at Rod Laver. Furthermore, they add that, although of course his wish is to be in Australia, he does not know when he will return or if he could make it directly to a Grand Slam without having previously competed in some other smaller tournament.

It is not the first time that Craig Tiley puts pressure on top-level tennis players in the world ranking who are coming back from injury by announcing their presence on the courts of the Australian Grand Slam. He already did it with Roger Federer and Serena Williams.
