The organizer said that the competition lasted for four days and included mixed team competition, men’s team competition, women’s team competition, 3V3 mixed group, and special guest group; specially invited by the organizer and the organizing committee, the former vice chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association , world champion Zhao Jianhua, legendary coach Li Mao who trained world famous players such as Li Zongwei, Li Xuanyi, Chen Long, badminton world champion Yang Yang, China’s first badminton mixed doubles world champion Wang Pengren and Lin Youmao, the 102-year-old Guinness’ oldest badminton player from Taiwan, etc. Guests came to the scene to support the event.
The Global Chinese Badminton Championship was founded in 1993. It was initiated in Xiamen by a group of badminton enthusiasts from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, including Wang Wenjiao, Wu Junyan, and Lin Jiancheng, and the first competition was held in Xiamen in January of that year. In November 2003, the 10th competition was held again in Xiamen. This competition, held in Jimei, Xiamen for the first time in 20 years, coincides with the 110th anniversary of the founding of Jimei School by the patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee and the 100th anniversary of the naming of Jimei Village.
The competition aims to “make friends with the ball, learn skills, keep fit, and unite the Chinese people”. After nearly 30 years of development, the scale and level have increased year by year, forming three major competition systems: team competition, individual competition, and youth competition. In 2011, it was confirmed as an event authorized by the World Badminton Federation.
In the past thirty years, the Global Chinese Badminton Championships has spread to 17 countries and regions including China, the United States, Canada, Thailand, South Africa, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, etc. It has a huge influence among Chinese people around the world and is one of the most important events in the global Chinese circle.
