The Global Chinese Badminton Championship was founded in 1993. It was initiated in Xiamen by a group of badminton enthusiasts from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, including Wang Wenjiao, Wu Junyan, and Lin Jiancheng, and the first competition was held in Xiamen in January of that year. In November 2003, the 10th competition was held again in Xiamen.
