Seville: Uruguayan Alonso is the new manager – Football

Sevilla have chosen a new coach, who takes the place of José Luis Mendilibar, winner of the last edition of the Europa League in the final against Roma, who was sacked last Sunday. The Andalusian club announced Diego Alonso that he will be presented this evening.

Alonso, a 48-year-old Uruguayan, has signed until the end of the season and is fresh from his experience on the Uruguay bench with which he participated in the last World Cup, exiting in the group stage. This is absolutely his first experience at the helm of a European club, while as a player Alonso wore the shirts of several Spanish clubs: Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Racing Santander and Malaga. After 8 days of the championship, Sevilla finds itself in a disappointing 14th place in the standings while in the Champions League the team has achieved two draws in as many matches, against Lens and Psv Eindhoven in a group that also includes Arsenal.
