Not content with being designated by the Major Leagues as the Player of the Month in the National League and joining the ideal September/October team, he was now awarded by Baseball Digest magazine as the Player of the Year.

“El de La Sabana” surpassed Shohei Ohtani, who stands out as a hitter and pitcher with the Los Angeles Angels. The Japanese star was unable to play after September 3 due to injuries.

Gerrit Cole, the ace of the New York Yankees, was selected the best pitcher of the year. The Dominican Félix Bautista, closer of the Baltimore Orioles, was enshrined as the reliever.

Acuña received 13 first-place votes in voting by a panel of 23 baseball journalists and commentators, including several former players, managers and executives.

Ohtani and Betts completed the podium

Ohtani got nine first-place votes, with the other going to Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts, who came in third.

Acuña hit .337 and led the National League with a 1.012 OPS. He led the majors in hits (217), runs scored (149), on-base percentage (.416), total bases (383) and steals. He was instrumental in helping the Braves, champions of the National League East Division, finish with the best record in the majors, 104-58.

At 25 years old, Acuña not only became the first player in the majors with 40 home runs and 70 steals, but he is also the only member of the 30-60 club.
