Puerto Rican 3×3 Basketball Teams Advance to Quarterfinals at Santiago 2023 Pan American Games

The National 3×3 Basketball Teams advanced to the quarterfinals at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games on Sunday.

The women’s team, which debuted on Saturday with an easy 22-11 victory over Jamaica, defeated Venezuela by the same result. Mari Plácido led the Puerto Ricans’ offense with eight points, followed by seven points from Ashley Torres. Annelisse Vargas contributed five and Paola Maldonado two.

Puerto Rico will face Mexico at 5:30 pm for a place in the semifinals. The women’s trio is in its first continental games.

The Puerto Rican teams advanced this Sunday to the quarterfinals of both the women’s and men’s 3×3 basketball tournaments of the Pan American Games. (Ramón “Tonito” Zayas)

In men’s, the Puerto Ricans defeated the Dominican Republic 21-14. On Saturday, they knocked Trinidad and Tobago off the field 21-6. Against the Dominicans, Adrián Ocasio was the best with eight points. Leandro Allende followed him with six, Guillermo Díaz with five and Jorge Matos with two.

The team, winner of the silver medal in Lima 2019, plays for the ticket to the semifinals at 7:00 pm with an opponent to be determined.
