Aubameyang ill and uncertain for trip to Reims

The Phocaeans could have to do without their top scorer while they still have a small chance of securing a European place.

OM striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, ill, is doubtful for his team’s match on Wednesday in Reims, even if he is part of the summoned group, his coach Jean-Louis Gasset announced on Tuesday.

“The most difficult case is Aubameyang, who has had gastric problems since returning from Italy. He’s not out but he’s not going to train.”declared Gasset at a press conference. “We give him medicine to stop all this. But he hasn’t been in great shape for five or six days.”added the Marseille technician.

A few hours after this press conference, OM published the list of players summoned for the trip to Reims and Aubameyang nevertheless appears on it.

Several members of the OM management team were sick during the team’s trip to Bergamo for the Europa League semi-final second leg lost (3-0) against Atalanta, AFP has learned. Since this match, OM have faced Lorient at home. Aubameyang started and scored twice (3-1 victory). But “he was tired”Gasset still estimated.

On Tuesday, the Gabonese striker was absent at the start of the training session which followed Gasset’s press conference. This is also the case for Samuel Gigot (hip), Azzedine Ounahi (thigh) and Amine Harit (calf).

Gasset had declared that Gigot would not play in Reims and that Ounahi and Harit were uncertain, but they all three appear, like Aubameyang, in the group of 24 summoned. If it wins its late match on Wednesday against Reims, OM will take 6th place and enter the European places one day before the end of the championship.
