Mystery Surrounds Disappearance of Young Ukrainian Footballer Oleksandr Rosputko

Ten days ago, Oleksandr Rosputko faced Antwerp in the Youth League, the Champions League for U19 teams. After beating Antwerp, the young defender had to travel by plane to reach Ukraine.

When reaching the airport, everything goes as usual. Until customs checks and luggage loading where the team realizes that Olesksandr is no longer there. Since then, only one trace of the young Ukrainian has been found. A neatly folded club uniform somewhere in the airport.

Since his disappearance, Oleksandr Rosputko’s social networks have been deleted. He is obviously no longer reachable by telephone. A disappearance that seems carefully prepared.

“We can confirm that he did not return to Ukraine with us. There was no indication that he was going to flee,” Shakhtar Donetsk responded to UA-football. According to a website/forum of Shakhtar supporters, there is a reason behind this sudden disappearance. Rosputko is said to be pro-Russian and to have tried to seek asylum in Russia. Information not yet confirmed.

However, it is true that the young player grew up in a pro-Russian territory. If other sites suggest a departure from a club, this hypothesis seems unlikely, reports HLN.

“We have sent him an official letter asking him to report to the team within five days. If he does not do so, his contract will be terminated,” Shakhtar Donetsk said. Rosputko had been playing for Shakhtar Donetsk since he was eight years old. He completed all his training there at the youth academy.

The Antwerp police have not yet been informed of the case.
