The match between Olympique Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais in the French Ligue 1 has been canceled because the visitors’ team bus was pelted with stones before the match. Lyon coach Fabio Grosso suffered a head injury.

The Lyon team bus was attacked more than an hour before the match on its way to the Vélodrome stadium, with several windows of the bus broken. Grosso was hit by shards of glass and had to be treated with a bleeding face. It is unclear whether more injuries have been reported.

Fidgety

Both clubs decided not to take action after consultation with the French Football Association. There is currently unrest in both French superpowers. Marseille, which will host Ajax in the Europa League on November 30, lost three of its last four league matches and Lyon is still at the bottom without a win.

Lyon defender Dejan Lovren says on X that tonight’s events have “nothing” to do with football. He also calls on the French government. “If the law doesn’t change, one day it will be too late. The government has to do something. I hope all Lyon fans get home safely.”
