London Lions Secure Victory over Umana Reyer Venice with 76-69 Score

London, 4 October 2023 – The season starts with a defeat eurocup per l’Umana Reyer Venice (on the pitch at the Copper Box Arena with mourning on their shirts in respect of the tragedy that occurred in Mestre a few hours ago) which falls to 76-69 on the first day of group A on the London Lions pitch. The English, after a slow start, managed to rebalance a match by dominating the last half with a partial score of 22-13. On the shields in the home ranks the winger Donte Grantham author of 23 points combined with seven rebounds supported by a team 61% two-point shooting. On the other hand, the roster coached by (who had to do without the injured Kyle Wiltjer who stopped due to a knee problem) was unable to repeat himself after the positive start in the Italian championship which coincided with last Sunday’s home success against Tortona. The 16 points recorded on the scoresheet by a solid were useless Amedeo Tessitori. The British are ahead 5-2 after a turn and a half thanks to the conclusions of Grantham and Soluade but they have to deal with an opponent who doesn’t stand by and is breathing down their necks (triple by Tucker for overtaking on 7 -8). Tessitori makes his full size felt in the painted opponent by establishing himself as an offensive leader in the partial that pushes the orogranata up to 11-17 in the 7th minute of the game, the beginning of the extension that will see it reach 17-25 with Brown preceded by the various Parks, O’Connell and Simms. Venezia manages to end the first half ahead with an eight-point advantage, giving the impression of having control of the game. In the second half the Lions slowly manage to get back behind with the score on the scoreboard with Grantham as usual good at converting a basket with a foul by the Italian rearguard into points. Reyer sees the bewitched basket, allowing the Londoners to make it 25-25 with Luke Nelson’s bomb. Casarin takes care of breaking the score for the guests but it isn’t enough to contain an inertia that has gone to the other side of the fence: the former Phillip sends the overtaking basket to target in a challenge that thus becomes a back and forth in which they go up both Spissu and Tessitori are in the chair. THEThe Sardinian director will close the first half at 38-41 thanks to his hot hand from long distance.

The lagoon players squandered their advantage

Upon returning from the changing rooms, Venezia starts with its foot on the accelerator, building an 11-2 run that sees them lead 40-51: Parks, Simms and Jeff Brooks from beyond the arc try to give the shoulder to an opponent who feels the blow but does not give up, clinging to the inspiration of Grantham who scores four points in a row, thus keeping the games open. The Lions then managed to mend the gap with a 10-2 counterbreak with Josh Sharma reducing the gap between the two teams to just one possession at the sound of the third siren (54-56 in the 30th minute). In the fourth quarter, Sharma once again stings, restoring the balance. London proved quicker to optimize the possessions played despite Reyer seeing her shooting percentages drop but managing to stay in the game until just over a minute from the end with Tucker placing the bomb for -1. Spissu wastes the triple of possible parity and Phillip closes the discussion from the line at 76-69.
