ROME (news) – Uspp Lazio: the catastrophic situation of the Lazio prisons can no longer wait

ilmamilio.it – press note

“On October 26th we were summoned to Rome by the Regional Superintendent of Lazio Abruzzo Molise, to discuss the proposed distribution of personnel indicated in the new decree of July 12th 2023 which increases the expected number in the three regions by 109 units”. The USPP Lazio regional secretary Daniele Nicastrini gave the news the day after the invitation was received.

For some time the union has been complaining about a very serious organic suffering which is putting the resistance of the Penitentiary Police to the test in the Lazio prisons, which are over 900 units below the staffing foreseen by the ministerial decree, which it illustrates in this way. “Currently the expected strength or what should be in the Lazio region should be 3624 units, which with this increase from the decree for Lazio should increase by approximately 80 units as proposed by the regional Superintendency. In reality, the force present in penitentiary facilities and related services such as units, hospital departments for example, barely reaches 2750 units, adding that around 10% is in medium and long term expectations also due to the after-effects due to the many attacks suffered ”. What will you ask the Regional Superintendent in this meeting, given the seriousness of the numbers present also due to overcrowding which has further exceeded the quota of 6300 presences in the Lazio region.

“Let’s say – continues Nicastrini – that USPP Lazio has been calling for a State of Unrest for months, reporting the unprecedented penitentiary emergency, for this reason we ask for more consideration from the regional Superintendent who after months has called for 26 October at 4.30 pm the Penitentiary Police unions. It would be better late than never to say, however with a note sent in these hours we have reiterated our priorities on which we hope for the necessary and undelayable attention.” We have noticed that attacks have decreased, given that we do not receive any news on the matter. “Unfortunately, this is not the case, concludes Nicastrini. We have decided to limit this news to avoid further alarmism, but we can say that this week other officers and even doctors with cracked ribs have been attacked, but we won’t say where for reasons of expediency. ”
