Karel Geraerts succeeds Thomas Reis

The struggling second division soccer club Schalke 04 has found a new coach: The 41-year-old Belgian Karel Geraerts is taking over from the dismissed coach Thomas Reis and is supposed to bring about a turnaround at the Royal Blues. The former Belgian international will have a contract at Schalke until June 30, 2025, as the club announced at the presentation on Monday.

“I am happy to be here and proud to be part of this big club,” said Geraerts, who coached the Belgian first division club Union Saint-Gilloise until the summer of 2023, at his first press conference: “I can speak from experience than I have When I was young, I saw Schalke as a big club. Great moments with Belgian players like Marc Wilmots, for example.”

“Bring energy to the team”
