The excitement of the SV Oberdorfelden judoka is already great, because on Friday afternoon there is a very special sporting treat for the department: The Austrian judo trainer Franz Kofler is stopping in Schöneck with his “Project 1000” and is holding a training session on site.

Schöneck – Almost all of the training groups will be present, as department head Silvia Golisano says. The fact that training with a larger group can be held in the SV Oberdorfelden judo department is the result of an upswing from a few years ago. Seven or eight years ago the department was almost idle. A group that includes Golisano, now 50, who has “grown into the judo world” thanks to her partner, has rolled up its sleeves and spruced up the department again. “We started with a handful of people back then,” the department head looks back. Today there are around 25 to 30 kids and another ten adults in the two training sessions. The initiators did not actively promote the training; rather, word got around, which led to the influx. The Oberdorfeld judoka are now even represented at national tournaments and have a bronze medalist at a German championship in their own ranks.

Newcomers are still welcome. SV Oberdorfelden offers judo training for ages four and up. This is definitely early, but we are looking closely at whether the child already has the requirements. Adults who would like to dedicate themselves to martial arts from Japan are also welcome. The training for children and young people takes place on Fridays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Adults and young people aged 15 and over train on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. “It’s best to send an email beforehand so that the trainer knows and can also let you know if the times change,” says Golisano.

“Project 1000” is scheduled to last ten years

First of all, the immediate focus is on the guest who will be stopping off in Schöneck on Friday. The contact came about during a German individual championship and so SV Oberdorfelden adorns the calendar of the 6th Dan holder, A-license trainer, former vice president of the Austrian Judo Association, regional association president and association trainer of the Luxembourg Judo Association. Kofler is currently touring Germany and neighboring countries with his “International Judo Project 1000”. He wants to visit 1,000 judo clubs and hold 1,000 training sessions. The project is designed to last ten years, because Kofler sometimes cycles to the clubs. It started in 2017 and since then he has visited over 350 clubs. He is not constantly on the move, but has divided his tour into stages.

For this fall and winter he has planned stops in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and northern Italy – due to the weather with a motorhome and bicycle. A total of 30 countries will then be visited in April 2023. “In addition to the personal, sporting challenge, the judo values and the judo school of life are in the foreground. It is simply important to me to promote my beloved judo sport, to give young people perspectives and to give something back to the sport through this contribution,” says Kofler, describing his motivation for the tour. SV Oberdorfelden will train with the prominent judo guest on Friday from 3:30 p.m. my
