Gladbach Boss Roland Virkus Plans Squad for Coming Season with Potential Striker Acquisition

Gladbach boss Roland Virkus, seen here on May 11, 2024, is planning the squad for the coming season.

It didn’t look like it for a long time, but now sports director Roland Virkus (57) is supposed to strike!

With the end of the season and the relegation now confirmed, planning for the coming season at Borussia Mönchengladbach begins to become more intensive.

Gladbach: Five million euros would have to flow for this striker

While the first transfer of Philipp Sander (26) from Holstein Kiel has not yet been officially announced, but was at least confirmed by the players last Saturday (May 11, 2024), more and more light has come into the internal squad decisions in the last few weeks.

Patrick Herrmann (33) and Tony Jantschke (34) will hang up their football boots starting next week. The situation also seemed clear for the loan players Jordan Siebatcheu (28, Union Berlin) and Max Wöber (26, Leeds United).

While the Fohlen Wöber would like to keep Wöber on the Lower Rhine beyond the season, it has seemed for weeks now as if Jordan’s future no longer lies in Mönchengladbach. But now there has apparently been a sudden change in thinking!

According to information from the “Berliner Kurier”, the American should now stay with the foals! Accordingly, Gladbach will exercise the purchase option for the 28-year-old, in return for which five million euros will go to league rivals Union Berlin, which is currently in serious danger of relegation.

Jordan moved to the left-wing Lower Rhine on loan last summer. In 28 competitive games he has seven goals and four assists.

In the meantime, the tall striker was a regular player, but since the long-injured Alassane Plea (31) and Tomas Cvancara (23) were fit again, the Union Berlin professional has only been used sporadically in the past few weeks.

During this phase, reports also emerged that Borussia Mönchengladbach had withdrawn from a commitment and would not exercise the purchase option. But Gladbach boss Roland Virkus has apparently changed his mind.

Update: As the “Rheinische Post” reports via “X” (formerly Twitter), there is no new status at Jordan. When asked, Roland Virkus said: “There are still discussions. We’re still seeing what’s possible. That’s what we always said.”
