The Highland Rugby U17 men’s team will be in Milan this weekend.

The players of the Inverness rugby team are all preparing to leave for Italy on tour to play against local teams.

Twenty-one players from the Highland RFC U17 squad will leave Inverness on Saturday and head to Milan for an incredibly busy spell playing against three teams: AS Milano, Bergamo and Cus Milano.

Having won the Caledonian Shield in 2022, this is the team’s Heritage Tour, with players continuing to play at the Under-16s while others move up to the Under-18s.

A Highland RFC spokesperson said: “None of the players have been on tour before, so this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The players come from Black Isle, Inverness, Nairn and Strathspey.

“Some still go to school, others have jobs. We wanted them to take this tour before moving or going their separate ways.

“The Tour will allow these young athletes to experience the thrill of international competition, but will also provide them with life lessons and priceless memories that will last a lifetime.

“They will experience different cultures, build international friendships and develop skills that go beyond the rugby field.”

Local businesses – such as RSE, Boiler and Valve, NFU – Dingwall and Thurso, Highland Council Ward Funding and Inverness Dental Laboratory, as well as Robertson’s Homes – have supported the team, who have also been busy fundraising over the last year with support from club.
