Trained at PSG, Moussa Diaby left the Parisian club in 2019 to join Bayer Leverkusen. If he had managed to get playing time in Paris, the now 24-year-old winger was still far from an indisputable starting place. While he signed for Aston Villa this summer, Diaby spoke about his departure from PSG.
Renowned for its training center and its exceptional talent pool, the PSG has, however, struggled to integrate its youngsters into the first team in recent years. Thus, many Parisian gems have finally launched their careers abroad. This is particularly the case of Moussa Diabywho after setting the Bundesliga lawns alight with the Bayer Leverkusen for four years, committed to Aston Villa this summer. In an interview with the Mirror, Moussa Diaby spoke about his departure from PSG.
“At PSG, when you don’t play, it’s not because you don’t have quality”
“Above all, I learned that when you have a chance, you have to be at your best to seize it,” declares Moussa Diaby. “At PSG, when you don’t play, it’s not because you don’t have quality. “It’s because other players are at the top and have a lot of experience.”

Moussa Diaby also took the opportunity to discuss his relationship with his former coach at PSG, Thomas Tuchel. “He was honest. He was my coach and he said to me: “Listen, Moussa, if you want to play in the first team, you have to fight, and you have to fight every day”. That’s all I could think about. What the coach told me. He gave me a lot of chances to play in Paris. But I needed to play in a team where I could progress.”
