Noussair Mazraoui sparked criticism with a pro-Palestinian post. Now Makkabi Germany wants to speak to the FC Bayern professional. The Moroccan international is said to have already made a similar suggestion.

In the debate about a pro-Palestinian social media post by Noussair Mazraoui, Makkabi Germany wants to approach the FC Bayern professional footballer. “We would like to talk to him, we would very much like to sit down at the table with him,” Makkabi President Alon Meyer told the “FAZ”. Accordingly, the dialogue should be initiated via the Makkabi local association in Munich.

However, the 25-year-old Mazraoui had already signaled his willingness to talk. According to “FAZ” information, FC Bayern is already organizing such a conversation with a representative of Germany’s Jewish community – the suggestion for this is said to have come from the Moroccan national player in a conversation with Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen last Wednesday.

Mazraoui had shared a video on social networks wishing the Palestinians a victory in the conflict with Israel. The club statement distributed after the conversation with the Bayern leadership on Friday said, among other things, that Mazraoui condemns “every type of terrorism and every terrorist organization.” The Bayern management had waived sanctions against Mazraoui.

Josef Schuster, the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, then explained that he had expected from Mazraoui that “a professional footballer who also serves as a role model would, against this background, unequivocally condemn Hamas terror, support Israel’s right to exist and anti-Semitism on German roads.”

“That’s not worthy of FC Bayern”

Such explicit statements were not included in Mazraoui’s statement distributed by the club. This is probably why Schuster called for “visibly harsh consequences towards the player” via “SZ” on Monday.

“What has happened so far is not worthy of FC Bayern,” said Meyer: “You cannot say on the one hand how strong the connection is between FC Bayern Munich and the Israeli community and then act like that.”

Mazraoui is back in the Bayern squad for the Champions League duel this Tuesday at Galatasaray Istanbul (6.45 p.m., in the WELT sports ticker). He was recently missing from the squad for the game in Mainz (3-1), but this was due to a thigh injury and not because of his pro-Palestinian social media post.

On Friday, the Central Council of Jews classified FC Bayern’s mild reaction as “appropriate” “also in view of the club’s always clear stance”. According to the “FAZ”, the Central Council of Jews in Germany left unanswered on Tuesday a question from the “FAZ” as to why the demands for harsh consequences (Schuster) had not been formulated on Friday.

Terrorists crossed the border with Israel on October 7th on behalf of Hamas, which rules in the Gaza Strip, and carried out massacres. Thousands of people have already died on both sides in the conflict.

“Next to this scene of horror, he calmly takes a Coke from the fridge”

Israel’s army showed Hamas video footage to 150 selected journalists. “Bild” reporter Björn Stritzel was also there. At WELT he explains what can be seen in the pictures that are too cruel to be published.
