ASCBB Secures Valuable Points in Last Home Match of the Season; US Boves Narrowly Lost in Denain

This Saturday, May 4, the ASCBB, which played its last home match of the season, seized valuable points in its quest to maintain itself while the US Boves narrowly lost in Denain, the second of the championship.

After a break of almost three weeks, the ASCBB players had a very important match, since they had to win against Coulogne in order to overtake Gricourt in the rankings. A place that would allow us to compete in the play-offs and give ourselves the opportunity to maintain. After a fairly balanced start to the match, with two diligent teams, the Amiens managed to gain a good advantage. At the end of the first ten minutes, the score was 21-10 in favor of Stéphane Noé’s players. During the second quarter, the locals widened the gap by taking a lead of 23 points when entering the locker room (51-28).

After the break, the ASCBB did not slow down and showed itself combative and determined to win for his last home match against his public. Ten minutes before the break, without Coulogne really managing to react, the Amiens led by almost 30 points. In a suspenseless end to the match, the ASCBB appeared serious and finally wins with an advantage of almost 40 points on Coulogne : 92-53. The Amiens team will therefore face, after their last Pre-National match next week, the 5th last team from another group in the play-off to try to maintain their position.

It was a game we had to win and we did it

Stéphane Noé, ASCBB coach

ASCBB coach Stéphane Noé remembers from the meeting: “Our opponents came weakened for several reasons, but we were serious, skillful and committed. It was a game we had to win and we did it, so it’s positive. We were serious, as we have been able to do several times at home, but not always away. We were quite skilful at the start of the match, which allowed us to get a head start on our opponents and then manage despite our lack of size compared to them. We managed, so I’m satisfied.«

Short defeat for Boves in Denain Face Denain, the Bovois were not unworthy but the gap was too big between the two teams

For their part, the Bovois were moving to Denain, second in the ranking. The training of Jean-Pierre Fourmaux bowed slightly on the score of 97-93. Forcoach Bovois “it was a match without stakes. We were especially keen to prove the progress of our last matches and avoid taking too big a gap. We can speak of a mission accomplished, because in my opinion, by achieving one of the best performances of this seasonwe pushed our opponent to two overtimes only to end up losing by 4 points.” Great performance therefore from the USBB, which certainly did not return from its trip with a victory, but which makes one of the best teams doubt of the hen.

Jean Pierre Fournmaux adds: « I’m still a little disappointed for the players who faced a somewhat conciliatory refereeing for the opponent, knowingly forgetting, at the end of the first overtime, a big foul on one of our players under the pretext that we do not whistle this type of action. I don’t think his analysis is up to par and this deprives us of a great victory who would have proven that our place in this division was not usurped.” For the last meeting of the season, the Bovois will host St-Omer at home.
