European Qualification Update: Belgium, France, and Portugal Secure Spots in Euro 2024

Lukebakio put the Belgians in the lead in Vienna in the 12th minute with his first goal for the national team, and shortly after the change of sides, the Sevilla winger made it 2-0. In the 58th minute, the gunner Lukaku also made his mark. The AS Roma forward leads the qualifying scorers table with nine goals. But the Austrians dramatized the match. In the 73rd minute, Laimer brought down and after the expulsion of visiting Onana, substitute Sabitzer converted the penalty kick in the 84th minute. However, the home team did not avert their first qualifying defeat.

The French in Amsterdam got off to an excellent start and captain Mbappé opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Striker Paris St. Germain scored again at the beginning of the second half and with his 42nd national team goal, he moved to fourth place among the best French scorers. Only Giroud (54), Henry (51) and Griezmann (44) have more goals. The Dutch, without a number of injured supports, reduced Hartman and deprived “Les Bleus” of qualification immunity, but they could not do more and the opponents did not return the debacle of March 0:4.

The Portuguese Ronaldo is happy about the win over Slovakia.

The Portuguese cruised to victory in the opening half in Porto when Ramos and star captain Ronaldo struck from the penalty spot. In the 69th minute for the Slovaks, the former Spartan defender Hancko cut down and ended Portugal’s bulletproofness in the fight for the Euros. Moments later, however, Ronaldo restored the home team’s two-goal advantage. The 38-year-old striker improved the record for the number of national team goals (125) and matches played (202). In the 80th minute, Lobotka made a breakthrough, but the favorites did not let the victory be taken away. For the Slovaks, who hold the second promotion place in Group J by two points ahead of Luxembourg, the famous Schranz and substitute Tomič started.

The Belgians are waiting for their seventh European Championship, their greatest success is silver in 1980. The French, who are two-time champions of the continent in 1984 and 2000, will appear at the European Championship for the eleventh time. The Portuguese will be playing at the Euros for the ninth time, having won gold medals in 2016. The three advancing teams were joined by hosts Germany. The final tournament will take place from June 14 to July 14.
