FC Bayern’s Defensive Concerns Grow as Staff Options Dwindle

Relaxed staff situation? Quite the opposite: FC Bayern’s defensive concerns are getting bigger and bigger!

Central defender Dayot Upamecano tore a muscle fiber in his left thigh in the last game before the international break against SC Freiburg (3-0).

According to SPORT1 information, it is assumed that the Frenchman will have a break of up to three weeks after the first MRI, although further examinations are planned and a longer absence into November cannot be ruled out.

What options does coach Thomas Tuchel now have for the center of defense?

De Ligt fit again against Mainz?

The record champions are at least confident that Matthijs de Ligt will be fit in time for the upcoming game at FSV Mainz 05 on October 21st.

The Dutchman, who recently had to miss due to knee problems, is training with the ball again.

It is quite possible that he will start in Mainz alongside Min-Jae Kim in central defense. Otherwise, Tuchel currently has no fit, trained central defenders left!

FC Bayern: Mazraoui or Goretzka as temporary alternatives

Top talent Tarek Buchmann is still in training after recovering from a torn muscle bundle.

The 18-year-old has been doing his first exercises with the ball again this week, but is not expected to become a serious squad option until the beginning of November. The medical department doesn’t want to take any risks.

So all that remains are temporary alternatives like Noussair Mazraoui or Leon Goretzka, who Tuchel called up as a makeshift central defender pair in the 4-0 win in the cup against third division team Preußen Münster. Not an ideal situation – especially since there is one English week after another until the winter break.

Tuchel is not enthusiastic. Are the Bayern bosses now taking action and considering a quick signing of a player without a contract? Open!

A transfer of double-triple winner Jérôme Boateng remains unlikely.

Tuchel wants an additional central defender

The club decided against it for moral reasons – even though it communicated differently to the public. Tuchel still wants reinforcements – if not now, then in January at the latest.

And sports director Christoph Freund, with whom the coach has already developed a very good relationship according to SPORT1 information, shares this opinion 100 percent.

In the next few days, those responsible want to decide whether they will continue with the existing staff or whether they will consider a short-term transfer.
