Equelite Sport Academy to Host II Edition of the Mediterranean Open Pickleball

Juan Carlos Ferrero – Equelite Sport Academy will host the II Edition of the Mediterranean Open Pickleball that will be held at these facilities from March 1 to 3, 2024 and in which more than 200 players from 19 different countries will participate. As the director of the Open, Luis de Cristóbal, has commented, the growth of this sport – which began its journey in the United States more than 25 years ago – is very rapid and is practiced by nine million people in the American country.

What makes this sport, which has just been recognized by the Tennis Federation, so attractive is that its learning curve is fast, since you can play in three hours, as well as its lower impact on injuries, which allows both people with disability or those over 60 years old can easily practice it. In Spain there are already 10,000 athletes who practice Pickeball.

The racket used is smaller and lighter than the padel racket and the dimensions of the court are those of a badminton court and it is a mix of tennis and badminton in which you can play doubles or singles, although it is more attractive doubles matches. It is a technical sport in which the player who serves the ball is the one who takes the initiative.
