Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot Left Out of Paris 2024 Olympic Games Preparation List

Last Thursday, Vincent Collet announced, during a press conference, his list for the preparation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Among the notable absentees, Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot, silver medalist in Tokyo three years ago.

By greatly reducing his salary to join the ranks of ASVEL this season, Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot had a major objective: to regain the coach’s good papers and thus participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Mission which ended in failure since the winger is one of the main absentees from the list of 19 players that Vincent Collet unveiled last Thursday.

An announcement which had the effect of a hammer blow for the one who was part of the adventure in Tokyo in 2021. He spoke at the microphone of Alexandre Lacoste, journalist for BeBasket :

“I was a little surprised, a little disappointed… Very disappointed. I think it was the biggest disappointment of my life, of my career. But that’s how it is, that’s life, that’s basketball. It’s not one of the things I control. I can just control what I do on the pitch.”

If Vincent Collet had justified the absence of Sylvain Francisco by “a question of size” and that of Moustapha Fall by “a rich man’s problem“, the name of Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot is missing due to his playing profile.

During last Thursday’s press conference, the coach of the French team spoke in these terms:

“He’s a shooting winger, so a relatively well-stocked position today, notably with Evan Fournier, who has the same profile. You can add Nicolas Batum, who also plays in this position, and Bilal Coulibaly, who, given his size, has a real ability to play 3. So I couldn’t see myself taking him.

More defensive and physical wingers were favored like Ousmane Dieng or Jaylen Hoard. Vincent Collet said he wanted to have “the best defense in the competition” this summer. The choices made go in this direction.
