Eintracht Frankfurt shines on defense, but offensively is effective

Flexibility is key. Eintracht can only play in a back three? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that. Toppmöller dares to do something – and is promptly rewarded. Frankfurt professional footballers can still win away from home. The 3-1 win against Hoffenheim in the Sinsheim Arena was the right signal at the right time. Two league game wins in a row was something that had never happened in Dino Toppmöller’s debut season.

Success abroad has many factors. Omar Marmoush is getting better and better. The Egyptian ran out of steam more and more in the second half. But until he was substituted, he ran, struggled and dribbled to his heart’s content. This is how it can and must continue. Because Marmoush is the soloist for Eintracht.

It’s good that, as the victory in Sinsheim showed, he now has support from the wings, especially from the left. It was a good decision by coach Toppmöller to field the rebellious Ansgar Knauff, who once again believed in himself, exactly where the U-21 national player feels most comfortable. Watching Knauff twirl in Sinsheim was a joy. In this condition, the man from Lower Saxony is an asset to the Hesse team.

A strong piece of unity

It is not the first time that the Frankfurt team has brought the team idea to the fore. The opportunity to do it again and specifically after the away win against Hoffenheim, who had made a strong start to the Bundesliga, was the right one. The defense group, excellently led by interim captain Robin Koch, presented itself as a grown unit even in the new formation.

The fact that Tuta used to weaken and cause concern is now a thing of the past. The Brazilian has become a fixture at Koch’s side. Willian Pacho has also become an integral part of the Eintracht defense. Despite Hoffenheim’s goal, Frankfurt continues to have the best defense in the league. That’s quite a piece.

The fact that the team has rediscovered the joy of scoring goals will make Toppmöller confident about the future. With this team, as it presented itself in the 3-1 win, something can be achieved this season. As seventh in the table, Eintracht is well in the race after eight laps, but they have to constantly be on their guard. Next Sunday (3:30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and on DAZN) Borussia is coming from Dortmund.
