When the legendary Alex Barros won his last race in 2005, surely no one imagined that the Brazilian anthem would not be played again for 18 years. Now the South American giant is once again in the spotlight of motorcycling thanks to Diogo Moreira, a talent forged in the different Spanish promotional cups and who debuted in the World Championship last year. He was already seen at his premiere, but he was resisting a victory that finally came in Indonesia and that, as he commented after breaking down crying on the podium, had been very difficult for him. «Last year I saw the rookies winning races and it didn’t work for me. I put a lot of pressure on myself and I didn’t enjoy riding the bike. Now I am returning to enjoy, to flow in the races.

The Moto3 race was crazy even before the traffic lights went out. Since the second overall, Ayumu Sasaki suffered a fall on the formation lap and even though his team fixed his bike on the same grid, he suffered many mechanical problems from the start and was left without points.

From the beginning, Dani Holgado was in the lead. His objective was to impose his rhythm and make the selection in front. When someone overtook him, the man from Alicante regained his position instantly. And in one of those, when Moreira had overtaken him and regained the position, he did so by exceeding the track limits and received his first long lap penalty five laps from the end. Holgado served the penalty, went to the back of the front group and came back to take the lead with two laps remaining. However, Race Direction sanctioned the Spaniard again for another overtaking off the track on the penultimate lap. Holgado no longer had material time to complete the long lap and three seconds were added to his final time, which dropped him to 14th position. «Two unnecessary sanctions. Thanks for screwing up my race,” the Sant Vicent del Raspeig driver complained bitterly.

The main beneficiary of the situation was Jaume Masià, who did not get into the mess of the last lap, in which Moreira, Alonso and Muñoz risked the race. With a sixth position and the puncture of his rivals, the Valencian is more leader in the Moto3 classification, with 16 points ahead of Sasaki and 17 over Holgado.
