Denver Broncos Make Strategic Moves, Trading Best Players for Future Picks

The Denver Broncos are the worst team in the NFL’s American Conference five weeks into the 2023 season with 1-4 record and suggests that they will give up the campaign for a loss by getting rid of their best players in search of future draft picks. The first to leave was Randy Gregory to the San Francisco 49ers and now another defensive lineman aims to leave the Broncos.

Based on a report by NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo, Frank Clark accepted a pay cut in order for Denver to trade him. The three-time Pro Bowl invitee was deactivated prior to the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6 and the defensive end returned 1.679 million of his base salary to make it $841,000, which means that the former Seahawks player will earn the veteran’s minimum for the remainder of the season.

Clark was released by Kansas City prior to the 2023 season and was part of the teams that won Super Bowls LIV and LVII. The University of Michigan graduate signed a 5.45 million contract with the Broncos that was fully guaranteed.

The trade deadline for the 2023 NFL season is October 31, so teams will have to rush to make a transaction to acquire a defender capable of putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Dismantling on the offensive

According to a report from ESPN’s Matt Graziano, the Broncos also want to get rid of wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy via trade.

Sutton has played 70 games for Denver since being drafted in the second round in 2018, but has not had a season like 2019, when he was invited to the Pro Bowl after generating 1,112 yards and six touchdowns. For his part, Jeudy is in his fourth season with the team and has never managed to overcome the thousand-yard barrier. However, his potential is latent after being a first-round pick in 2020.

If the departure of both wide receivers is completed, Denver’s depth at the position would only include Marvin Mims Jr. and Brandon Johnson. The Broncos have Phillip Dorsett, Tre’Quan Smith and David Sills on practice squad.
