Palaces, castles, archaeological sites and abbeys… On the occasion of the 25th edition of Child’s Play Monument, the Center des monuments nationaux (CMN) invites children and parents this weekend to celebrate these emblematic places, under the prism of learning and wonder. Our selection to discover – or rediscover – heritage through fun and original activities.

Origami at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris

Get your bows, set, papers! An origami workshop will be held all weekend on the terrace of the Arc de Triomphe, an opportunity to learn about Japanese art while discovering the floral decorations of the monument. Children (from 6 years old) and parents are invited all weekend to create unique and original pieces in this emblematic place in Paris. Families will also make a pop-up model of the monument.

Become a magician at the Château d’Oiron in Plaine-et-Vallées

In the company of magician Mehdi Ouazzani, the children will explore the building – considered the southernmost of the Loire castles – during the morning and the first part of the afternoon. A visit punctuated with fun moments. Children will learn magic tricks selected according to the different rooms of the castle. At the end of the day, the young magicians will present the fruits of their learning to adults. Each participant will leave with their young wizard’s kit.

An escape game at the Saorge monastery

At the Saorge monastery, strange and unexplained things are happening… The building is plunged into a disturbing atmosphere, marked by the disappearance of Brother Leo the Franciscan. During an escape game, the children will solve the puzzles and decode the hidden messages which allow access to the different rooms of the site. The young adventurers will unravel the mystery of the place and (perhaps) save the monk in time.

Gourmet afternoon at Château d’Aulteribe in Sermentizon

The marquise of the Château d’Aulteribe, a small town in Puy-de-Dôme, invites families to participate in an afternoon that will awaken their senses. On the program: workshops, games, snacks and historical discoveries. Young and old will be able to create improbable wedding cakes together, salivate and travel while listening to the history of the orange, discover the culinary tastes of King Louis XIV and find out more about the meals of the surrounding fauna.

Go back in time at Sauve-Majeure Abbey

Who has never dreamed of discovering a medieval camp? The youngest will be able to put themselves in the shoes of brave warriors, queens or kings. Numerous outdoor activities, including introductions to archery and crossbow shooting, will be organized in this emblematic Gironde abbey.
