Boris Becker Returns to Coaching: Leading Holger Rune Towards Tennis Success

Boris Becker’s coaching comeback is a big topic on the tennis tour. Many stars are happy about the return of the six-time Grand Slam champion.

Boris Becker should lead Holger Rune further towards the top of tennis. The 55-year-old is currently looking after the world number six at the ATP tournament in Basel.

The three-time Wimbledon winner will be welcomed on the tour with open arms. “I really appreciate Boris Becker,” the Swiss Stan Wawrinka is quoted as saying by “Blick”.

“He’s a huge name,” added his compatriot Dominic Stricker: “It’s cool that he’s back on the tour. You meet him in the Player’s Lounge every now and then.”

Becker had already coached Novak Djokovic between 2013 and 2016. Most recently, the German tennis icon followed the events in the role of a TV expert for the “Eurosport” channel. Now Becker faces a new challenge.

Tennis icon Boris Becker explains his commitment

“Now it’s a great fit. My calendar allows it and I’ve always been interested in Holger because he’s so committed and temperamental on the tennis court,” the ex-professional recently explained his collaboration with Rune to “Eurosport”.

The decision was anything but difficult for him. “I love tennis and if one of the best 20-year-olds in the world asks me if I would like to train him… anyone who says no doesn’t have much to do with the sport,” Becker made clear.

Meanwhile, Rune emphasized the “good connection” with Becker. “He understands me as a player and as a person,” the tennis youngster explained to “Blick” about the existing chemistry.

The six-time Grand Slam champion is “here to make myself better. I learned a lot in the week in Monte Carlo alone – you’ll see it then!” said the Scandinavian.
