Betis Baloncesto Ends Preseason with Victory over Cáceres Básket

Betis Baloncesto closed the preseason with a victory by beating Cáceres Básket, one of the teams they will have to face in the LEB Oro, by 78-83. The Sevillian team dominated for most of the match and went into halftime with a reassuring lead of 37-47.

However, Javi Carrasco’s team did not have a good start to the game in this XXX Cáceres World Heritage Trophy, which also served as a return visit after the friendly played in Seville behind closed doors. At the end of the first quarter it was 23-17.

The Betis defense was very weak in that first phase of the game and the local Juanjo Santana took advantage of this by scoring 14 of the locals’ first 19 points. Cáceres had an eight-point lead at 19-11.

After that start, the green and white team pushed hard in defense and with Roko Rogic at the helm of the operations, they managed to score a partial of 14-30 in the second quarter that was going to be decisive in turning the score around.

The Green and Whites, now with the entire squad at their disposal after the latest additions of the Uruguayan Joaquín Rodríguez and the Puerto Rican of Cuban origin Ismael Rodríguez, were 16 points ahead at 40-56 and 45-61. The difference in rebounds was decisive in that phase.

The Extremadurans came within 6 points a couple of times, but Krutwig or Pacheco poured cold water on the heated local parish that came in good numbers. The local chronicles also highlighted in this last phase an old acquaintance from Cáceres. Niko Rakocevic, with the game tied, played three triples: he missed the first one, he made the second one and the third was a foul and he made all three shots. Four points ahead for Betis with one minute left. A fruitless attack by the team and Cepukaitis scored two with an additional with 6 seconds left. The Lithuanian missed, but the decisive rebound was for Betis Baloncesto’s victory.

North American center Cameron Krutwig was the green and white team’s top scorer with 20 points. He was the main scorer within a squad that had a very choral offensive contribution.
