María José Vargas Clinches Sixth Consecutive Title at Battle at the Alamo Tournament

The number one in the world was crowned champion at the Battle at the Alamo tournament in San Antonio, Texas

In this tournament, María José Vargas achieved her sixth consecutive title, to consolidate its dominance in international racquetball. Previously, had won the Pan American and Boston Open in March 2024, the Arizona Open in January 2024, the 31st Annual LPRT Christmas Classic Pro-AM in December 2023, and the LPRT Turkey Shoot in November 2023.

In the Battle at the Alamo competition, María José Vargas, as the number one seed, advanced directly to the second round where she defeated Naomi Ros of the United States 2-0 (15-3, 15-8). In the quarterfinals, victory to Kelani Lawrence (United States) 2-0 (15-5, 15-4), and in the semifinal she beat Alexandra Herrera from Mexico in an exciting 2-1 (3-15, 15-10, 11-10) match. In the end, beat Montserrat Mejia (Mexico) 2-1 (15-12, 8-15, 11-7) to secure the title.

Besides, Natalia Méndez also participated in the tournament. In the first round of the Single LPRT PRO, Méndez lost to Michelle Key of the United States 2-1 (14-15, 15-9, 11-2). In the LPRT PRO doubles, Vargas and Méndez reached the semifinals after an outstanding performance in the quarterfinals against Colombians Cristina Amaya and María Paz Riquelme.
