Arjonilla Badminton Club Defeats Granada Torres 4-3 in Top 10 Badminton Iberdrola Match

The Jaenenses beat Granada Torres by 3 to 4 in the match on matchday 2 of the Top 10
Badminton Iberdrola.

The Arjonilla Badminton Club traveled to Granada last Saturday to play the second match of the league competition. The rival, Granada Torres, had just won their postponed match from the first day in Valencia.

The duel started with the mixed doubles match. Adam Pringle and Anne Fulgsang of Arjonilla defeated Rubén García and Candela Arcos in four games (7-11, 9-11, 11-6 and 8-11) giving Arjonilla the first point of the match.

Then the gender doubles began. The first to finish was the women’s doubles, Anne Fulgsang and Sonia Martínez gave Candela Arcos and Clara Campos no options, winning in three quick games (6-11, 8-11 and 5-11). The men’s doubles lasted until the fifth game, in which Joan Monroy and Adam Pringle finally failed against Rubén García and Daniel Franco from Granada (7-11 11-6 11-9 10-11 11-3).

Arjonilla provisionally led the match score by 1 to 2 with the individual matches still to come. In the first round of singles, the victories would be shared between both teams. Sonia Martínez beat Clara Campos in the women’s singles (7-11, 4-11 and 7-11) while Tomás Toledano was defeated by Lievre Dany Rachel (11-10, 11-7 and 11-10).

The last individuals would be in charge of defining the winner of the match. Arjonilla only needed to add one more match to win the match and this match came in the women’s singles. Cristina Teruel defeated María de la O Pérez in four games (6-11, 7-11, 11-9 and 6-11) giving the victory to the people of Jaén.

In the men’s singles match in which Ernesto Baschwitz faced Daniel Franco, the latter ended up winning the duel in four games (11-6, 10-11, 11-9 and 11-7).

“Equality in the matches is going to be the norm in the competition,” said the Arjonilla coach, Antonio Pons, at the end of the match. “Gaining points away from home is important if we want to keep them at the top of the group. “Congratulate the team for the victory, now it’s time to rest and prepare for the next match.”

Sonia Martínez, who was making her debut with the Arjonilleros, emphasizes the equality of the duel since “it could have fallen on the side of either team. “I have felt very comfortable in both the doubles and the singles and I am happy with the team’s victory.”

The next match for Arjonilla will be played at home against Rinconada-Sevilla on November 4.
