Having qualified third at the Under 12 European Championships, Barbieri is the only Lombard player in the national team
Rho -The name of Rho flies in Europe, thanks to the extraordinary feat of Alessandro Barbieriyoung Champion of Rho Baseball.
Barbieri, excited, went up to the Town Hall, accompanied by his mother, Paola Bianco, who acts as coach for him and for his other son Francesco, who had participated in the selections for the U18, welcomed and celebrated by the Mayor Andrea Orlandi and the Sports Councilor Alessandra Borghetti.
Alessandro Barbieri, born in 2011, lives in Arese where he attends seventh grade. Raised in Rho Baseball, he was called up by Team Italy last July to participate in the Under 12 European Championshipwith the other very young Italian players he took third place and was the second best scorer.
To reach the national team he passed several selections in Parma, Bologna, Arezzo and at the Regions Tournament. Before the European Championship he participated in training in the Marche and in Avigliana, near Turin. In Valencienne the national team beat France and then Germany, European champions, 22 to 10. Finally, they reached third place, beating the Czech Republic. He is the only Lombard player in the national team. Alex, who proudly wears the Rho Baseball cap and the Italy shirt, speaks about this feat with enthusiasm.
He gave the Mayor a baseball that shows all the stages of his rise to the national team. A bag from the city team to the councilor. He received a pennant from the Municipality as a gift and historical postcards that tell of his past: “Thank you for bringing the name of Rho to Europe!”the city administrators told him.
Now Alex has rightful access to the city’s Sport Oscar Night, scheduled for February, together with other European champions from various disciplines.
