2nd Edition of Les Buts Filled Fall Classic Raises $22,553 for Basque Youth

Organized by the BR Fund and marked by the presence of a team from the Capitales de Québec, the 2nd edition of the Les Buts Filled Fall Classic raised $22,553 for young people from the Basque region, on Saturday, October 7 last, at the Stade Paul-Émile-Dubé in Trois-Pistoles.

“Beyond a friendly softball competition, this event aims to raise funds to encourage young people from the Basque region to pursue their dreams, regardless of their field of interest,” recalled Benoît Rioux, founder and administrator of the BR Fund. After hitting a home run in the first edition, we have just achieved a grand slam!”

During the day of Saturday, the BR Fund took the opportunity to donate $10,000 to various sports associations, namely $5,000 to the Trois-Pistoles Minor Baseball, $3,000 to the Les Gymnoss Gymnastics Club and $2,000 to the Les Figure Skating Club. Sparks.

During its first year of existence, the BR Fund has now paid a total of $23,500 to the Basque community, including $10,000 directly to young people in the region, notably through the secondary school scholarship program from Trois-Pistoles. This program seeks to inspire and guide young people towards their biggest dreams.

Trois-Pistoles, a tight-knit community

Once again, the citizens of the region responded and showed their generosity during the 2nd edition of the Les Buts Filled Fall Classic. The BR Fund would also like to express its gratitude to the City of Trois-Pistoles, an early partner, for its audacity and trust.

“The initiative presented by Benoît last year was already a great success, and he managed to maintain this momentum this year,” said the mayor of Trois-Pistoles, Philippe Guilbert. Helping young people who make a positive difference in their community through a unifying and entertaining sporting event is a noble cause.”

The BR Fund also highlights the important contribution of the MRC Les Basques, through the Support Fund for structuring projects.

La Fromagerie des Basques wins

On the field, spectators were treated to exciting play and several spectacular sequences. The Fromagerie des Basques team, represented by numerous players from the Trois-Pistoles senior baseball club, won the tournament honors, following a 14-8 victory against Construction Michaël Bérubé in the grand final. These same two teams paid the price for the final in 2022 while Construction Michael Bérubé won.

The Capitales’ journey, which notably counted on the presence of star player David Glaude, ended in the semi-final against Fromagerie des Basques.

“When I was asked to come here and be the honorary president, I did not hesitate, it’s a magnificent cause,” Glaude testified. To have managed to raise nearly $23,000 for the young people of Trois-Pistoles and the surrounding area in one and the same edition of the tournament, it’s crazy!”
