Tony Parker Reveals His Biggest Regret from NBA Career

NBA – If Tony Parker’s career in the NBA is in some ways almost perfect, the best French player in history revealed his biggest regret during his 18-season adventure on the other side of the Atlantic.

Guest on NBA Undrafted, a show hosted by First Team for NBA Europe, Tony Parker had a new opportunity to look back on his long career in the NBA, marked by four titles with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014, but also by a great regret that he explained during the show. Indeed, the Hall of Famer inducted in 2023 spoke about the lack of back-to-back won with the Texan franchise:

“What is “missing” from our incredible track record is this famous back-to-back. Even against Miami in 2013, I told myself that we were missing this opportunity where we led 3-2, I really thought we were going to win the title that year. In 2004, we took Derek Fisher’s incredible shot at 0.4 seconds. In 2006, it was Nowitzki who gave us an and-one in Game 7 when we were at +3 and had to qualify and we lost in overtime. And in 2008, Kobe was incredible in the conference finals against us. »

Not just small teams or small players, as theFrench international with 181 selections :

“Each time we came up against very strong teams, whether it was the Lakers, Dallas with Dirk, it’s not as if we had lost our title against fake teams. It’s a little lacking, but at the same time, I still tell myself that we made eight conference finals, five NBA finals and that we won four titles. When you look at the history of the NBA, there must be around forty of us to have won four rings so it remains incredible. »

Nothing to be ashamed of indeed, while the future prospects for Saint Anthony are more exciting than ever since the end of the era Duncan-Tony-Manu.

Tony Parker gave his biggest career regret: never winning a back-to-back. A certain accomplishment, but the absence of which from Parker’s record should not keep him from sleeping at night, he who won four NBA titles and was named MVP of the Finals in 2007.
