On the Lions roster for the first edition of the Baseball Champions League there are eight players who were active on the team that won the franchise’s fifth star in Monterrey.

Henderson Álvarez, the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 King Series, who achieved a gem of pitching in the seventh and final game, is part of that group, as are Sebastián Valle, Norberto Obeso, Yadir Drake, Luis Juárez, Marco Jaime, Alex Tovalín and Manuel Chávez. Valle, Obeso, Drake and “El Pepón” were starters with the monarchs.

Yucatán earned the right to compete in the “champions” by being crowned last year.

On the final list of roarers there are also three rookies who trained in the cave, Gilberto Vizcarra, Ángel Camacho and Yamil Castillo.

In their first challenge, against Barranquilla -next Thursday, starting at 8:30 p.m. at the Kukulcán-, the “kings of the jungle” would face José Piña, who this year with Veracruz, including playoffs, had a record of 3-0 against them and did not allow a run in 17 and a third innings. Jesús Valdez, called up by the Caimanes, hit two home runs against the beasts at the big party.
