Michaël Maria still has good hopes of enforcing a professional contract somewhere. The 28-year-old attacker, who previously caused a furore in the youth of PSV and played for NAC Breda, Adelaide United and FC Twente, among others, has now been transfer-free for almost a year. Maria is now making an open application for a new club opposite the Eindhovens Dagblad.
As a teenager, Maria was known as a great talent at PSV. He played there together with guys like Memphis Depay, Jürgen Locadia and Jorrit Hendrix. At the moment, Maria maintains his condition with various youth teams of the people of Eindhoven. He now hopes for that one chance, for example in the Kitchen Champion Division.
“In the past I have shown at clubs that I can be of added value on the right side,” says a motivated Maria. “Whoever gives me that chance is definitely not going to regret it. I am super fit and I still only want one thing at the moment and that is to be a footballer. It’s great that Ernest Faber supports me in that mission at PSV and tries to help me. I am really grateful to him for that.”
Maria’s agent is currently looking at whether a solution is possible after the end of the transfer period, but the attacker also realizes that not every club is waiting for him. “Still, I can assure everyone that you can get a 100 percent motivated player and that I don’t have any heavy financial requirements. It’s about the sport for me. Being a footballer is fantastic and I’ll do anything to keep it that way for a few more years. may be.”
Partly due to injuries, Maria only came to 147 official duels in professional football. He nevertheless had a good period at FC Twente and is a 29-time international from Curaçao. “I myself was a player who could be used in many places in the team and therefore I played far too little in my best position,” says the left leg. “I am a right winger and I feel that I can still be of value at a good level in that position. Hopefully, as I said, someone will give me one more chance to show that.”
