Timely Police Intervention Saves Woman and Child from Domestic Attack in Avezzano

Avezzano. He attempted to attack his wife and beat her in front of her little daughter. Then she threatened her with death. The worst was avoided thanks to the timely arrival of the officers from the Avezzano police station who stopped the man.

A restrictive measure was immediately issued against him by the Avezzano public prosecutor’s office which provides for his removal from the family home. The incident occurred around 6pm yesterday when a call for help was received on 113. A police patrol went to the scene immediately.

When the officers arrived, they entered the apartment and found the 46-year-old man from Avezzano, with several police records behind him, in a clear state of psychophysical alteration probably due to the intake of alcohol. Despite the presence of the police, the man attempted to attack the woman. Not at all inhibited either by the presence of his 9-year-old daughter or by that of the police, he attacked the woman by making heavy threats, including: “I’ll break your face, I’ll take the stick and break your head. I’ll kill you tonight.”

The police thus removed the man to prevent the situation from escalating and presented a request to the Avezzano prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor on duty, in light of the serious situation, issued a restrictive order which provides for the removal of the man from the family home to protect the safety of the woman and that of the child. He must answer for aggravated and continuous threats. In fact, according to what emerged from the investigations, the violent and threatening attitudes towards his wife had been going on for some time.

In recent days, numerous episodes of violence against women, resulting in cases of murder, have rekindled the issue and raised public awareness of the application of the red code. The law introduced a series of measures for the protection of victims of domestic and gender violence four years ago.

Among these measures, there is precisely the creation of a priority channel for reporting these crimes, which provides very short times for the intervention of the police and the judiciary. In particular, the law provides that, in the event of a report of violence in the home, the judicial police must intervene within 3 hours of receiving the news of the crime.

The law also introduced a series of protection measures for victims, such as the removal of the perpetrator from the family home. An increasingly frequent protocol in Marsica and which is catalyzing the work of the Marsican judiciary, as confirmed in recent weeks by the chief prosecutor Maurizio Maria Cerrato.
