Yadier Molina Appointed Leader of Puerto Rico’s Under 15 National Baseball Team

The president of the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation (FBPR), Dr. José Daniel Quiles, announced the appointment of former Major League catcher, Yadier Molina, as leader of the Under 15 National Team, with a view to a friendly tournament.

The event will take place starting this Thursday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and will conclude on September 18.

In addition to Puerto Rico and the host team, there will be the United States team.

“It is a great honor to be with these young people helping them progress. It is always an honor to represent Puerto Rico,” Molina highlighted.

The leader of the Puerto Rican team has a successful career of almost two decades as a stellar catcher in the Majors. He represented Puerto Rico as a player in the World Baseball Classic (WBC), being the captain of the team. In addition, he led the Under 23 National Team in 2017 and 2018. He led the Navegantes de Magallanes in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, this year he led the Puerto Rico team in the WBC and was recently named leader of the Criollos de Caguas in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League.

“For the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation it is a privilege to have the availability and support of a figure like Yadier Molina. We appreciate your commitment to the country and the development of Puerto Rican baseball,” said Quiles.

Molina highlighted the team’s talent and predicted positive results in the competition.

“It is a very talented group. We are going to run a lot and play little baseball. Of the 20 players we have on the roster, 15 can also pitch and that gives us strength,” said the leader.

The team will travel this Tuesday and will have its first practice in Dominican territory on Wednesday.
