Given the growing number of fans in our country, the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) will seek to give greater dissemination to this sport through the Baseball Champions League (BCL), a tournament where the champion teams of the different leagues will compete on a global scale.

According to information provided by Horacio de la Vega, president of the LMB, there has been a considerable increase in attendance at stadiums and the marketing of baseball in our country, since in the 2022 season we grew around 30 percent compared to from last year. In addition, we had a presence of nearly five million people in the different places of the League.

These data are encouraging, so an attempt will be made to attract more audiences with the holding of this contest, organized by the LMB in conjunction with the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC), the Yucatan Lions and the authorities of that state, in whose first edition will only involve four teams from the American continent, although this number is expected to increase in the coming years and include clubs from other regions, such as Asia and Europe.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, from the United States; the Alazanes of Granma, from Cuba; The Caimanes de Barranquilla, from Colombia, and the Leones de Yucatán, from Mexico, are the clubs that will compete in the initial edition of this tournament, which will take place starting this Thursday and until October 1st in the Park Kukulcán Alamo, home of the ninth tricolor, LMB champion in 2022.

The contest will be held in format round-robin: The four teams face each other in the group stage and in total there will be eight games in four days. The first two places will advance to the final and the two remaining clubs will meet in a duel for third place.

It is very significant to host the initial edition of the BCL. Like Mexico, we raise our hand to host the first two in our country. “We are very proud and it is an honor,” said De la Vega.

They will see us all over the world. We start in America, but then Europe, Asia will come and then there will be a global tournament. So Caimanes, Leones, Alazanes or RedHawks will write their name as the historic first champion, said Guillermo Ramírez, commissioner of the BCL.
