Ten Hag’s Frustration Grows as Manchester United Suffers Another Defeat

Erik ten Hag is in the corner where the blows fall with Manchester United. The coach fell again on Saturday, this time at home against Brighton & Hove Albion. Noa Vahle asked the coach if he is bothered by the issues surrounding Jadon Sancho and Antony.

“No, you have seen a team that fights for each other. There is a good spirit in it, so that has no influence whatsoever,” Ten Hag responded to Vahle’s question Viaplay. Does it bother him personally, given his good relationship with Antony? “Of course it is annoying, but I have to focus on the players that are there and I have prepared them as best as possible. I can easily close myself off to that, because that is my job. Of course I care about Antony, but I have to focus on my other players.”

It hurts to lose again after the defeat at Arsenal. Especially because Ten Hag did not think his team was any less. “We started the match well, with a lot of pressure and we created a lot of chances. But the first opportunity they create is there. Just before half time you think you will score the goal, but then it doesn’t happen. It is just the phase when things just don’t work out.”

“It’s just not going our way at the moment,” Ten Hag continued, citing two examples. “Just such a moment when the ball was over the line or not. Offside or not against Arsenal. Like a penalty that we don’t get. Everything is not happy. But that will come if we stick together, work hard and stick to the principles of our game. (…) If everything went our way in the first half, we should have been 2-1 ahead at halftime.”
