‘Mislintat asked on Monday if he could fire Maurice Steijn’

Sven Mislintat begged Jan van Halst for the dismissal of Maurice Steijn on Monday, Cristian Willaert reports at ESPN. The director of football affairs is said to have insufficient confidence in the Ajax coach and has asked to end the collaboration. The revelations are striking, as Mislintat himself came under fire on Tuesday evening after it emerged that he bought Borna Sosa through a business associate.
“It is not so much a dark matter, but it is contrary to the rules that apply to employees of listed companies,” Willaert explains Mislintat’s situation. “That is Ajax and that could get Mislintat into trouble. If he has not disclosed things that he has indicated he would do in his contract, this may be a stick with which Ajax can hit. If they get rid of him (Mislintat, ed.) want to get rid of it, they now have a stick to beat with.”

A day earlier, Milsintat himself went to the club management. “It is difficult to see from the outside how much support Steijn has from Ajax’s management,” Willaert continues. “According to my information, Mislintat asked Van Halst on Monday if he could fire Steijn. This has been discussed. Van Halst has kept his hand over Steijn. Now the question is how Mislintat himself feels about it. There are question marks within the management about all the players he has brought in and passing through the staff and scouting.”
Another player who joined Ajax through Artur Beck, Mislintat’s good business associate, is Diant Ramaj. “Something that was unlawful actually already happened,” says Willaert. “This is not the only thing going on. The spicy thing about the Sosa case is that he was with an agent whose contract expired on August 31. They then waited until September 1 to do the deal with Ajax, so that Beck could, as it were, be pushed in between.”
