Stronger than Romain Bardet in the final, Valentin Paret-Peintre won the 10th stage of the Tour of Italy this Tuesday evening.

Second French victory in the Giro: Valentin Paret-Peintre won the 10th stage of the Tour of Italy on Tuesday by winning alone at the top of the Bocca della Selva in front of his compatriot Romain Bardet and the Slovenian Jan Tratnik.

This is the first professional victory for the young Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale climber, 23, who succeeds his older brother Aurélien, 28, himself a stage winner in the Giro last year and fifth again on Tuesday.

Tadej Pogacar, who remained warm within the peloton, defended his pink leader’s jersey without forcing, arriving with most of the other favorites almost four minutes behind the winner.

A race shared with Romain Bardet

This is the second success for a French rider in this 107th edition of the Tour of Italy after that of Benjamin Thomas during the 5th stage. Paret-Peintre, a slender but very dynamic build, was part of the big breakaway of the day – almost thirty riders strong at its peak.

On the last climb, he first made common cause with Romain Bardet, before attacking three kilometers from the summit to take on Jan Tratnik, who had gone as a scout, and seek victory with a 29-second lead over Bardet, which makes a good comeback in the general classification.

The victory of the younger Paret-Peintre once again confirms the excellent start to the season for his team, which has already achieved 15 successes this season.
