SK Sturm Graz Signs Belgian Defender Dimitri Lavalée

Despite the failed departure of defender Gregory Wüthrich, SK Sturm Graz signed a new central defender shortly before the end of the transfer.

After the Styrians received a refusal from Hammarby kicker Edvin Kurtulus, the Graz team led by sports director Andreas Schicker still steered a defensive player to Graz-Liebenau.

The 26-year-old Belgian Dimitri Lavalée is moving to Murstadt from the Belgian first division club KV Mechelen. The runner-up and cup winner of the previous season is loaning the central defender until the summer of 2024 and has also secured a purchase option.

Lavalée: “I didn’t have to think long”

“In Dimitri Lavalée we were able to sign a technically very experienced left-footed player with a strong tackle, who has already gained a lot of experience in the strong Belgian league. I am convinced that he will suit us well and has the potential to help the team further “said sports director Andreas Schicker about the new acquisition.

“With Dimitri, we’re adding another exciting profile in central defense, which will benefit us in an intense autumn with an enormous number of games. We’re delighted that Dimitri has chosen SK Sturm Graz and we look forward to playing with him in the future seen in black and white.”

Lavalée himself is overjoyed about his change. “When the request from Sturm Graz came, I didn’t have to think long. Sturm have shown in the Europa League in recent years and are one of the top clubs in Austria. I can’t wait to get to know the team and do my part to improve ours achieve national and international goals.”
