Samuel Gigot Speaks out about the Challenges of the Transition from Igor Tudor to Marcelino at OM

Samuel Gigot spoke about the start of the OM season. The central defender admits that the transition from Igor Tudor to Marcelino is difficult for the dressing room.

At the end of the season, Igor Tudor announced his departure, after just one year on the OM bench. The technician seems to have suffered the blow, especially since his work was not always recognized by the public. The Marseille leaders found a replacement for him in the person of Marcelino, whose playing system is somewhat different. The content of the matches at the start of the season is already subject to criticism from certain consultants.

During an interview given to BFM Marseille, Samuel Gigot spoke about his team’s difficulties. The defender highlighted the fact that the tactical organization was different: “They are two completely different systems. Last year it was one-on-one almost everywhere, there was a lot of risk. The most important thing for me is that we don’t concede goals. This year, it’s a little more tactical. But hey, it’s our job, it’s up to us to adapt as quickly as possible”he explained.

“He wants us to attack and defend together”

The player particularly emphasized the importance of the group working as a unit: “I think even the coach hopes that we understand his tactics as quickly as possible. After the return match against Pana, we were quite happy, we could see the coach’s touch. He wants us to press, but he wants us all to be coordinated, to attack and defend together. It is especially the last match in Nantes which leaves us with a lot of regrets, we were not effective, 10 against 11”he added.

Gigot hopes for success to facilitate the transition: “I hope that from the next match it will get better and better. It’s difficult to say, because we want it to work straight away, but in modern football, we are not patient, unfortunately. Last year with Tudor, the adaptation happened very quickly in the end, we had good results quickly with a very good start to the season. I think that if we manage to string together victories, it will give the group a lot of confidence. »

OM will host Toulouse on Sunday for the 5th day of Ligue 1. The schedule will then get tougher with two trips to the grounds of PSG and Monaco.
