Daniil Medvedev’s Optimism for Roland-Garros Despite Rome Loss

Beaten by Tommy Paul in the round of 16 (6−1, 6–4) in Rome, Daniil Medvedev failed to defend his title. But he remains optimistic for Roland-Garros, where he was eliminated in the first round in 2023.

“I think we should go by the rankings. There is Novak, Jannik, Carlos then me, who is number 4. Who won Monte‐Carlo? Stefanos. If he wins here, he could be the big favorite. He will have won two Masters 1000 on dirt this year. But I think if Novak and Carlos play, they will have this status. They like the surface and they can win Grand Slams, but maybe now it’s a little more open than ever. It’s a good thing for me, because normally at Roland Garros I don’t play very well, so the more open it is, the better it is for me. »
