MotoGp, Quartararo on Pecco: “Crashes like this shouldn’t be reviewed”

Barcelona, 3 September 2023 – Everyone is worried about Pecco’s fall Bagnaia on the first lap of the Catalan Grand Prix a Barcelona. Fortunately, the Ducati rider and reigning world champion is well but there was great fear when we saw him jump off the bike with the arrival of the whole group, with Brad Binder who could not avoid it by hitting him on the leg. Bagnaia is fine, she hasn’t suffered any fractures and, above all, she hasn’t lost consciousness. She did great seeing the dynamics of the fall. But it is precisely on this, on the many replays also shown to the riders, that Fabio complained Quarterly.

“We are forced to review the falls”

Pecco’s fall was clearly visible both in live recording and then in the replay, a matter that people don’t like Quarterly. The Frenchman asks for less replays of bad falls especially for family members and colleagues. Fabio’s thoughts: “I almost ran over Pecco – his words – I saw the crash very well but the thing that absolutely needs to change is that we in the pits are forced to review the crashes over and over again. It shouldn’t be like this, it applies to us colleagues and it applies to families. I put myself in the shoes of Pecco’s parents or any other rider”. Difficult day in terms of crashes given that in addition to Bagnaia there was the crash of the other Ducati rider Enea Bastianini who knocked out all the riders who were by his side: “He hit five of them, he was inside and certain things can happen. It’s his mistake but there was bad luck ”, commented Quartararo. Then there was the race and for Yamaha there have been small steps forward. Fabio’s seventh place can be seen as sufficient in a season where the competitiveness of the M1 has collapsed in the presence of the European brands: “I think it was a good day – Quartararo’s analysis – We went back to last year’s base in the warm up and the decision rewarded. I was able to have a good pace and that satisfies me, but it’s not the first time we’ve gone back to do something different.” Quarterly a year ago he won in Barcelona while now he can at most fight for a top ten finish. The difference is evident and for the Frenchman there is always the usual refrain: at the Misano tests he will understand the level of the new M1. In the meantime, we have to accept the new situation which doesn’t allow Fabio to fight for victories and podiums. He adopts a more zen-like approach, knowing full well that his bike can’t offer more: “Mentally it’s difficult to go from a victory six seconds ahead to a seventh place ten seconds behind. It’s tough, but Yamaha he knows how important the Misano tests are”. The date is 11 September, the day after the Rimini Riviera Grand Prix which will, as always, close the motorcycling summer.
